I have 7 tabs open and am only using 66,000 some kb of mem. I have 8 plug ins.

So its either firebug or vista's aero graphics raping your RAM. Don't convert to opera unless you have to, it isnt as W3C compliant as firefox in my experience. But still much better than IE7 in most areas.

Enable "Firebug" only for the sites you need to use it for... and upgrade to its latest version.

It's firebug, and no other word about it.

Memory leaks are quite rare for me. Just killing firefox and starting it again solves the problem for me :)
It usually gets upto 60-120MB when I keep it open for a few days straight with about 5 tabs but that's it. I close firefox and start it again. Voila! Plus my consumption can hardly be called a leak :P

If I'm not on Firefox, Opera would be my next browser. I still love Firefox.
And as Belloman said, Firebug is a memory leech :P Now stop being semi-evil and get back to Firefox :D

I heard somewhere that it is the Firebug extension that has some serious leaking problems.

I quick search brought up this:

The Firefox memory usage is probably a memory leak. I do however prefer firefox, but Opera would be on the list if I didn't use FF.

It's time to face it, folks: Opera is larger than asterisk.
