I’ve recently seen two sites which have been very much inspired by two of my sites. The question is, how do I take this?
People have ripped my layouts before, it happened to Michele the other week, and now it’s happened to me again. The difference here is that these sites have been inspired only by certain parts of my layouts. Usually I’d go nuts and bring on the cursing but this time I’m not sure if I even want to.
How’s that for an update?

Taking it easy is, IMHO, the best way to go.
It means someone loved your design so much that it was “inspired” by it.
As long as it isn’t a complete rip-off, and if it doesn’t steal your “brand”, than it’s fine.
Just send them an email and see what they have to say.

Just a little bit annoyed that for some reason FeedLounge is down and I haven’t had my daily dose of tech news and updates to everyones blogs that I syndicate.
Sucks :p

Is Feedlounge that good? I’ve tried it but thought it wasn’t worth all that money.
There are so many great feed reader for OS X — Newsfire, Vienna, NetNewsWire — that I don’t feel like “going online”.

Well, it means I can track items from at home on one machine, to another, or when I’m at college.
I’ve just purchased a license for Newsfire to see what it is like - but so far from the demo I’m really liking the UI.

Your design has been ripped again ? :-/
Thats not good :-/
Well as Michele said, atleast you can take heart from the fact that they really “liked” your design and took inspiration from it. I guess you just have to turn a blind eye to it i guess

Not ripped. They just took ideas from two designs on two of my sites.

Can we see the similar designs?
Whee, comment previews work in Opera! /o/

Maybe they’re just not as good in designing as you are and they’re just trying to make a decent website inspired by yours. As long as they say they’re inspired by yours and didn’t rip you off, but only use some ideas and they don’t say you ripped them off, I think you shouldn’t make a big problem of it.
But I know that it feels good to have a unique website that you made yourself.
Today I was thinking to make something like this website, but I’ve noticed that you really don’t like it that people copy you. So I guess I’ll have to make a design by myself or ask someone to make me one

I think the web is just too big now…

Guess not then. :

smethead, generally I don’t have a problem if people ask me.. So send me an email (or use the Contact form) and I most probably won’t have any problems with it.
sock, I don’t want to draw attention to them

Well Chris, honestly your design work is outstanding.
tikitiki (June 1st, 2006, 7:23 am)
I agree. I love the quick search, and that logo is absolutely the most unique piece I’ve ever seen, yet its very elegant and simple.
Dennis (June 1st, 2006, 5:32 pm)
Chris you eat seafood much?
Chris Boulton (June 1st, 2006, 5:36 pm)
You people and your compliments.. I disagree! Thanks though
Dennis, aka “the guy who made me buy a bigger server for MyBB because his site is such as resource hog”, yes, I do eat a fair bit of seafood. Though I’m not too sure how that relates to this
Dennis (June 2nd, 2006, 7:02 pm)
Wait…didn’t you say the new server costs less per month
Yes I found the source of the resource hog-giness –> spambots :D…kidding
Your logo reminds me of seafood. Clams, crab, lobster, pinchers…
