SiteScore

SiteScore is the latest free tool which rates how well designed, how accessible, how well marketted and how popular your site is, then gives you a ranking for each of these sections, a final score, and a list of suggestions and improvements for the area’s you’re going wrong in.

It pretty much contacts Google, Alexa, and W3C to return information on validation errors, search engine positions for certain terms, and your web ranking.

I’m very happy to say that two of my sites (both designed by myself), MyBB as well as this website both score nice strong scores – and scores which should improve over time as the sites are crawled by the Alexa and Google Bots.

Mybboard.com scores a very nice 9.2. With areas of improvement being the recommendation of more images per page, and the popularity for terms on Google which should hopefully improve itself when reindexed.

SurfiOnline.com scores nicely too with an 8.9. Areas of improvement include once again the links to, and the popularity.

Comment Spam!

Well, i’ve been waiting for it to happen here and I knew it was going to happen soon. It seems I was comment spammed last night. It was a fairly lame attempt I must admit with only four comments being posted. Thanks to the awesome Wordpress the cleanup was done within a few minutes and everything i back to normal. I even added some of the keywords used by the spammer in to the blacklist. so hopefully next time he tries the same his comments won’t make it past the moderation.

Now, back to making breakfast and then some study. Will be posting again soon!

Tick tock, tick tock..

They say time flies when you’re having fun. Well, i’m obviously not having fun then. Eternity even went past while I was still experiencing last week! Maybe its because i’m currently doing my exams that time is flying by about as quick as a snail can cross from one side of the road to the other. Thats 2 exams down, and 4 more left to go. Coming up this Tuesday I have my Maths exam which should hopefully be okay..

You know whats worse? I’ve become pretty sick recently. Great. Just what I need, a day before my second exam (second exam being English Paper II last Wednesday) I come down with the worst cold and cough ever, and felt like sleeping all day. What was even better was that this bug stuck with me during my English Paper II exam and to make it even worse I felt lightheaded and dizzy. I’m glad to say its clearing up now though. :D

I wish i’d had more time to work on MyBB recently apart from the two new features and the bug fixes I have slowly been implementing. I really want to push to get this release out the door and get underway on a series of converters for InvisionBoard, vBulletin, phpBB, XMB and all of the other popular discussion systems today. Hopefully we’ll get a nice boost in the amount of users of MyBB and making the MyBB community a more thriving place for discussion.

If you’re up for some interesting reading on the Windows vs Linux security debate which seems to be doing the rounds recently, again, you can check out Windows vs Linux security : the real facts at The Reg.

There’s been lots of other things happening at the moment, I wish I had more time to write abot them, but not right now. Maybe later..

Today’s freeware application: Real Alternative. I’m not a fan of RealPlayer and RealMedia, infact I hate their bloated application and their “smart center” which won’t go away! The Real Alternative is what it says, an alternative to using RealPlayer and yet it still supports all of the RealMedia file formats! No annoying ads either!

Dum-de-dum..

“Where in the world is Mr. Boulton?!” If you’re asking yourself that then you have good reason to be. Where have I been? Well, i’ve been out studying for my HSC examinations which start on Monday 18th. Fun? No.

If you read my post about not becoming an MVP previously you will have learnt that I did not become a Microsoft MVP for Messenger as well as others who deserved it (even more tham me) and I was annoyed at how some people got it who haven’t had much input on the scene, don’t have much to do with Messenger, or aren’t doing lawful things with Messenger. Well my opinion on those people still stands. However I have learnt that a few more people have recently been accepted for the MVP positions – Patchou, the author of Messenger Plus!, wtbw, and DXtremz. Well done to them, they deserve every bit of it.

Right, well. Now that that bit is now off my mind..

For those of you have been living in a cave, Christopher Reeve died last Sunday. A superman both on stage and off stage. His life, a true inspiration to all.

Heh, you know something is wrong when Microsoft admits that their own natural keyboards are unnatural.

Finally, Windows Media Center 2005 – Australian version has been released. However it does not support the EPG (Electronic Program Guide). I’m not too sure if many people still use MCE anyway as there are much better free alternatives – but its still a great product from a great company (Please, don’t laugh – I will explain in a later post.)

Looks like we (Australia), are coping the blame again for being one of the world’s biggest carbon dioxide polluters who has failed to do anything about it. Perhaps they should spend some time fixing up, and perfecting the public transport system? Its far from being at a standardised level where people will use it to commute over their own transport.

Maybe I bought my iPod too early? Rumour has it that Apple are preparing a new iPod release for the Christmas holidays featuring a photo browser and a colour screen. Shnazzy!

Now, this puppy could be interesting if it actually works. Another Mac OSX/G4 emulator for Windows. Hmm.. So now I can use Final Cut Pro without spending a small fortune on a Mac?! Cool!

There’s umm, just afew (22) new security flaws in Microsoft products that Microsoft is warning us about. Maybe its time to make sure you’re running the latest versions of everything over at Windows Update.

Today’s free tool of the trade: nLite is a Microsoft Windows installation customizer allowing you to strip out the features you don’t need in Windows and burn a custom bootable CD. Perfect for networks where you need to deploy a stripped down customized version of Microsoft Windows but aren’t interested in ghosting.
