About SurfiOnline
It was February 2nd, 2004 when SurfiOnline first came to be. Before that, the site consisted of a simple message, “Hi, I’m surfichris and I’ll be your waiter tonight” as well as two random images. SurfiOnline was my first real experiment at a highly CSS based design though it initially still consisted of a few tables here and there because I hadn’t quite worked how to float layers and keep them cross browser compatible (in terms of widths, margins, and paddings). I also decided that it was the time to mark my online presence with a weblog and personal site instead of just on the MyBB Community Forums as well as various other forums.
Of course, I’ve always been a fan of simplistic and minimalist design - sure, the fancy stuff looks good, but I prefer to jump right in and find what I’m looking for without being distracted at the same time. SurfiOnline has been no exception to this rule, I try to keep the design as simple as possible without overdoing things. Straight to the content, afterall, that is why you’re visiting the site in the first place.
SurfiOnline, after becoming my personal site, was powered by the free blogging software, bBlog. At the time, I didn’t think much of WordPress and complained about the template system in it. The site is now proudly powered by WordPress, and guess what, I’m a fan of the template system - because it’s basically just PHP. From shared hosting, to semi-dedicated hosting, to running on a dedicated server along with MyBB, this site has moved numerous times.
